Glove care
POW Gloves recommends Nikwax for glove care: Waterproofing Wax for Leatherf or smooth leather gloves, and Glove Prooff or synthetic or mixed fabric gloves.
General tips
- Always clean your gloves before re-waterproofing them.
- Whenever you clean leather gloves, NEVER washthem in the washing machine.
- Do not turn lined gloves inside out. The liner, insulation, and membrane can be very difficult to put back into place.
- Gloves with removable lining dry faster when the liners are removed, and these liners are easy to wash, too.
- Always dry your gloves at room temperature. Avoid heaters, driers, and ovens.
- Gloves dry best in an upright position.
Care by material type
Leather Gloves/Mitts
Leather is all natural; it needs regular care for best results. Reapplying leather oil and water treatments will help ensure years of product life.
Nikwax treatment may alter the color of the leather (sometimes darkens, slightly), so test on a small area to be sure you like the look. Oftentimes, worn and faded leather nearly returns to its original shade, when it was brand new. Be careful with white leather applications: spot check before applying to entire glove to ensure no discoloration occurs.
- To apply the Nikwax Waterproofing Wax for Leather, put the gloves on normally, squeeze a Hershey’s kiss amount onto your palm, and then spread it around your hands evenly, as though you are applying hand lotion.
- Be sure to rub it deep into seams, massaging it until it is completely rubbed in. Remove any excess with a cloth or napkin.
- No baking or heating is necessary to activate the waterproofing. It works immediately!
- Treat every 30-60 days, or as needed for optimal waterproofing.
Many POW leather gloves come with Nikwax to apply before using. Make sure your new POW Gloves are really Built to Last by using our provided waterproofing solution on your new gloves.
Synthetic and Mixed-Fabric Gloves
- Clean/wash your gloves first (Nikwax Tech Wash). You can even toss them in with a load of your ski or snowboard shells and do 3-4 garments at a time with Tech Wash.
- While the gloves are still wet, apply Nikwax Glove Proof with the applicator sponge, paying special attention to seams. Remember to push down on the brush tip to break the seal. You will feel or hear a little pop. As you apply the treatment, be sure to cover the entire outer surface of the glove.
- After a few minutes, remove any excess solution with damp cloth.
- Allow to dry naturally.
